In Search of the Work-Life Balance

yin_yangAs much as we might want to separate work from our personal life, in the modern world, they are forever intertwined.

It would take advanced Jedi training to be able to return home after a busy workday with no thoughts, feelings, or emotions about the day. Not to mention, we might need to check email or do some real work that evening.

There’s an alternative to repressing resentment and harboring ill feelings towards the situation. You don’t have to find ways to compartmentalize work and personal life either. You have a third option: Allow your work and life to be intimately connected. After all, that’s the reality.

Supporting your personal life can uplift your professional life—and vice versa. The converse is also true: Negative effects on one impact the other. Whose work performance hasn’t suffered due to problems at home?

Accepting the symbiotic relationship between work and personal life can be liberating. Acceptance seems to put an end to the apparent dichotomy. The proposed conflict disappears.

This shift in mindset doesn’t mean your work life will further dominate your whole life. On the contrary!

The healthy respect for both worlds will arise, leading to a more balanced existence.

Great stuff! We lead three different lives all at the same time. A ’secret’ life where only we know the details…a ‘private’ life we lead at home among our family…and a ‘public’ life we live at work among our associates. When these three lives are in alignment we are living in our integrity and will be most happy and content!
