Breaking Your Work Patterns
Our minds want us to believe that if we work more, we’ll be more productive. The mind says, “Just keep going. You’ll get more done.”
Indeed, sometimes you do get more done. In fact, when you hit a mental wall, if you break through, productivity flows effortlessly.
Other times, however, working less produces greater results. Paradoxically, sometimes not working actually increases our effectiveness.
Escaping from your work environment at random intervals can pay enormous dividends. Break your normal work patterns.
- Stare at a tree and marvel at its intricacies.
- Walk outside your office and listen intently. Don’t label the sounds or judge them. Just listen.
- Clear your mind by focusing on your breathing.
Clarity brings fresh thinking. New perspectives are born when the mind breaks old patterns.
Breaking your work patterns isn’t difficult. It’s a choice. Try it. You might be surprised.

Stare at a tree and marvel at its intricacies is a great Scott. It seems that the tendency of the mind is to go for the first choice. To go for the pattern that I am use to. This gives a method to create new connections (maybe see new a perspective). This might also be a great way to activate the right side of the brain.
Probably so. Just like juggling, gazing out at nature uses our less dominant side of our brain. These days, it seems like anything that can pull you away from the quickly-changing Web environment is probably good for our souls too.
it is good and interesting.
